Master planning performance troubleshooting
In Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, planning departments typically run master planning regenerations in batch overnight. When the planning department comes in in the morning, they expect that everything completed successfully. This might not be the case. I’ll show you how to use the Master planning history form to make sure things are running smoothly.
Where to find this
Each plan has its own history form. If you’re using multiple plans, you’ll have to look at the history for each of them separately. To do this, navigate through to “Master planning”–>”Setup”–>”Plans”–>”Master plans.” After you select the plan you’re interested in, click the “History” button up in the ribbon bar.
Logs are saved to find errors
Although the screenshot above doesn’t show any errors, if there was an error when MRP ran, it would indicate this in the “Has log” column. If you see a record with a log, click the “Log” button in the ribbon bar and look at the Infolog that was generated. Things like missing BOM versions or capacity scheduling errors will show in here. Any planning department scheduling master planning nightly should review this form at least once a week to make sure MRP is completing successfully.
